Meghan has been an extremely physical and active person her whole life. As a child, Meghan competed in many sports, her favorites being softball and competitive cheer. At the age of 18, she got her first paid job as a tumbling and gymnastics coach and has been involved in coaching various athletics since. Meghan grew up skiing, but not competitively. After college, she discovered competitive skiing and became an instructor and eventually, a coach. As an adult, through a long slow process of self-reflection, Meghan realized if she had grown up without sport, she would be half of the woman that she is today. She also realized opportunities in sport were nowhere near equitable. Soon after these life-changing revelations, Skiing is Believing sports and community service programs were born. The organization and its various services are in many ways a mirror image of her own experiences in multiple sports, (a generalist, not a specialist), coaching those sports, and her service in various types of philanthropy. She credits her entrepreneurial parents for any level of business creativity present in the organization.
Ironically, most of Meghan’s time these days is spent behind the computer organizing and planning SIB’s year-round programming. When she is on-snow her time is spent with fellow snow sports staff at the local ski resort where she works and is Manager of the Adult Snowsports School. She is a Level 200 U.S Ski & Snowboard Coach, a Level 3 PSIA-AASI certified ski instructor and trainer, and a Level II Children Specialist at the resort where she is employed. Over the years, Meghan has served on multiple nonprofit boards both in Pennsylvania, where she is from, and a few here in Northern NV which has been her home for nearly 15 years. Currently she serves on the Western Board for PSIA-AASI (Professional Ski Instructors of America, American Association of Snowboard Instructors). Additionally, she is an ambassador of the Rollerblade ‘Skate to Ski’ Program and a Level 1-Skate IA instructor. When she is not coaching on snow, or instructing in the transfer sport of inline skating, Meghan still spends some time coaching athletes at a local non-profit CrossFit gym. She is a CF-L2 Trainer, a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coach and a Certified Adaptive & Inclusive Trainer (ATA). On bikes, she is also a certified BICP Ride Leader. Meghan fervently believes in the power of physical activity to not only promote health within the body but also develop crucial life and coping skills that can be used in nearly any environment at any age. This belief and the drive for fairer access, is the foundation of all Skiing is Believing camps, coaching programs and after school activities. It drives the entire mission of everything Skiing is Believing stands for and promotes.
